Pitse Lodge is a tribute to Paul Fentener Van Vlissingen and the conservation and community involvement legacy.

Pitse Lodge is a unique, “exclusive use lodge” stitched to an ancient rocky ridge and secluded in the far south of Welgevonden Game Reserve. Pitse overlooks a swathe of wide-open grassy plains, rich with bird life in the lush green of summer, and regularly visited by the big five and prolific plains game.

At Pitse, safaris are conducted at your convenience, and fireside, candlelit dinners are enjoyed under a canopy of stars, where fine pan-African cuisine and excellent South African wines are shared.

Stylish and flamboyantly decorated, five romantic thatch and stone suites provide for 10 discerning guests. Indulge in the privacy of your own tranquil suite and sundeck, enjoy a quiet moment to yourself in the library, wallow in the pool during warm summer days, or get cozy around a warm fire with friends.

Pitse provides a quiet home from home and sheer luxury living in the wilderness!

Pitse Lodge Accommodation

Stylish and flamboyantly decorated, the accommodation includes five thatch and stone luxury chalets, two of which are connected and thus ideal for families. The main lodge consists of a lounge, library, dining area and deck overlooking the open plains, whilst candlelit dinners in the boma are a feast of delicious food and excellent South African wines. All meals are prepared by our chef at the lodge. The freshest produce is used and we make use of organic herbs and vegetables from our own garden, wherever possible. Pitse Lodge can accommodate a total of 10 people.

Lodges 1, 2, 5 - stand alone thatch and stone houses with luxurious en-suite bathrooms and outside showers. Lodges 3, 4 - these two units are linked by an entrance hall and are ideal for families with small children As the lodge is let out to only one group at a time it is ideal for families with children. The exclusivity also allows for game drive activities to be scheduled around your family.

The lodge has a well stocked library complete with video and CD player facilities. There is a swimming pool and an outside boma for dining. Equipment for small conferences can be arranged on request. Fax and telephone facilities are available.

Pitse Lodge Activities

Activities are entirely dependent on guests’ wishes. Game drives at any time of the day, picnics and expeditions to the lodge’s breeding facility for roan, sable antelope and buffalo are all on the agenda. The big five are much in evidence and the surrounding area is renowned for white rhino that graze nearby and unusual bird life. In all, this spectacular lodge is the epitome of elegant living in the wilderness.

Lion, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, kudu and many other species of game occur in the area. There are occasional sightings of leopard and cheetah. Welgevonden has an extensive bird and plant species list.
