Makweti Lodge

Crafted from natural rock with teak decks overlooking the rugged Makweti Gorge, Makweti main lodge is an evocative synthesis of sublime style and comfort. Hand- selected antique artifacts and furnishings, sumptuous leather couches, kelims and hand-beaded fabrics reflect an African heritage.

Makweti Safari Lodge is both privately owned and operated, and recently became a part of the prestigious Chaine de Rotisseurs and members of Great Hotels of the World which is internationally acclaimed.

Since no more than twelve guests can be accommodated in the stone and thatch suites at Makweti, your experience is sure to be leisurely and luxurious. When entering the main lodge of this Limpopo hideaway, guests will be met by rare and spectacular African art, elegant furnishings, rich wood, and the ethnic textures of Africa.

Makweti's main lodge is built into a natural rock formation in the craggy Waterberg Mountains, and boasts teak decks which overhang the dramatic Makweti Gorge.

Makweti Lodge Accommodation

Accommodation is provided for just twelve guests in spacious and secluded thatch and stone suites, each uniquely decorated with beautiful antique treasures and rich timbers. All suites have indoor and outdoor showers, a Victorian bath, an open fireplace and a private deck affording breath-taking views of the African bushveld. Great care has been taken to provide you with the ultimate in luxury in this primitive surrounding. The staff prides themselves in their ability to anticipate the needs of each of their guests.

Relax around the rock swimming pool, browse through the library or watch the game at the nearby waterhole whilst sipping a chilled drink.

Since no more than ten guests can be accommodated in the elegant stone and thatch suites at Makweti, your experience is sure to be leisurely and luxurious. Makweti's main lodge, built into natural rock formation in the craggy Waterberg Mountains, is a dramatic architectural synthesis. Antique African art and furnishings invite you to quietly peruse our African library or settle into a lively conversation at the zebra bar while you savour a crimson African sunset.

Makweti Lodge Meals

Makweti is a full service lodge. A Pan-African hospitality cuisine is presented  with traditional South African hospitality, you will be delighted with the careful attention to detail. The chefs select only the choicest of fruit and vegetables and even the most discerning palette will be delighted with the presentation of meats, venison and local fish dishes. A selection of breads, cakes, cookies and desserts are prepared daily on the premises. Meals are served either under the African sky, in the Boma or in one of the more formal areas of the main lodge.

Welgevonden Wildlife

The vegetation offers an amazing diversity from Proteas to sycamore fig trees, sweet grasses to the reed grasses that embrace the many streams that run through the reserve. Thick forest vegetation gives way to large open plains, reminiscent of the African dream.

Unique to the Welgevonden reserve are the spectacular views of African landscapes in combination with excellent game viewing – a combination unique on the South African safari circuit. Whilst on game drive through this spectacular wilderness, one can encounter an abundance of wild life including white rhino, kudu, blue wildebeest, giraffe, eland, zebra, elephant, lion, buffalo and the ever-elusive leopard.
